Police Commissioner NTR has arrested a doctor in connection with the mysterious death of a PG paramedic who died at the Vijayawada Government General Hospital (GGH) on February 5.
Battula Deepika, a postgraduate in anesthesiology, collapsed in her hospital room after an injection. Based on her parents’ complaint, the Machavaram police registered a case and started an investigation.
Police on Monday arrested Amar Sahas, who allegedly induced Deepika to end her life by suicide. Amar worked as a doctor at Nandigama Government Hospital in NTR district.
During the investigation, it has reportedly emerged that Deepika spoke to Amar for about nine minutes at around 12.30 pm on February 4 before she ended her life.
“Deepika’s mobile call data revealed that she had several conversations with Amar,” said a police officer.
Speaking to The Hindu on Monday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (AKT) K. Damodar said Amar was booked under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 (Incitement to commit suicide). “When Amar refused to marry her, Deepika resorted to an extreme step. The accused was arrested,” the ACP said.
