England Batter Sam Billings, playing for Lahore Qalandars in the 10th edition of the Pakistani Super League, said the Indian Premier League is the best T20 league in the world, with the rest of the tournaments – including the Great Bash League and PSL – fighting for second place. Billings was asked to compare PSL with the rest of the league around the world, but former player Chennai Super Kings took a diplomatic attitude.
While IPL, now in its 18th editionhas grown to become one of the best sports leagues around the world, over the years several other T20 competitions have appeared, each fighting for space in a wrapped cricket calendar.
Big League Bash, Pakistani Super League and T20 explosion have been established for some time, while newer leagues like SA20 and one hundred quickly gained attention. SA20, founded in 2023, quickly becomes closely followed by the T20 tournament.
“You want me to say something stupid, right?
“It’s hard to include all the competitions. But I think it’s hard to look around the IPL as a premiere competition. It’s quite obvious. Every other competition is close.
“I think it’s hard to compare it. Every competition brings different challenges. I am grateful to get the world and play cricket and bring a smile to people. I wouldn’t change this job for anything,” he added.
Sam Billings (33) debuted in 2015–16 and played for Islamabad United. It was also his first taste of the T20 competition based on the franchise.
Since the 2023 season Billings represented Lahore Qalandars in PSL.
Billings played for five seasons in the T20s in IPL, Billings played five seasons. In 2016, he made his debut in the Premier League, Indian with the capital cities of Delhi before appearing for Chennai Super Kings in 2018 and 2019. Last time he performed in IPL in 2022 for knightly riders.
IPL has consolidated its status as the world cricket Premier T20, both popular and financial. In 2022, BCCI provided a record RS 48,390 Crore (approximately $ 6.2 billion) media rights for the 2023-2027 cycle, which was one of the most valuable sports real estate worldwide. This agreement is reflected that each match is awarded for more than Rs 18 crore. The League Valuation in 2024 increased to $ 12 billion, which reflected its immense commercial attraction.
