About the Henley Passport Index
The Henley Passport Index ranks 199 countries by the number of destinations their citizens can visit without a visa. Although India gained only two new visa-free destinations under the 2025 list, its increase indicates an improvement in global mobility.
A slight improvement in India’s Global Passport Index indicates a growing diplomatic presence and international cooperation. As an increasing number of countries are visa-free for Indian travelers, global mobility is gradually expanding, albeit at a slow pace.
Although India is making progress, Asian countries still top the Henley index. Singapore is in first place with visa-free access to 193 destinations, followed by Japan and South Korea, each with access to 190. In third place are European passports from countries such as France, Germany, Italy and Spain, which allow entry to 189 destinations. At the very bottom, Afghanistan has visa-free access to only 25 destinations.
