NEW DELHI: Indian Test and ODI team captain Shubman Gill has condoled with the victims of the recent blast in Delhi and expressed grief. A tragic car explosion near Delhi’s historic Red Fort left several dead and many others injured on Monday evening.In a post on his official X handle, Gill expressed empathy for the bereaved, writing: “Disturbed by the distressing events at the Red Fort. My thoughts go out to everyone. I hope for peace, safety and strength for all.”Gill and members of Team India’s Test squad are currently in Kolkata preparing for the upcoming first Test of the two-match series against South Africa.

In response to the blast, security was increased at the Eden Gardens stadium and in Kolkata ahead of the first Test match. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has handed over the investigation into the blast near the Red Fort to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), news agency PTI reported.This is a clear indication that the blast, which has claimed 12 lives so far, is being treated as an act of terrorism by the government as the NIA is only mandated to investigate terror cases.The Delhi Police said on Monday evening that nine people were killed and several others injured in the blast. The death toll rose to 12, with three people succumbing to their injuries, it said on Tuesday.
