
Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) on Friday, July 11, arrested R. Ven Gopal, a controlling partner and a competent person of the Medical Agencies in Karimnagar, for the sale of counterfeit antiepileptic tablets falsely marked as a product of a leading pharmaceutical company.
This is the second DCA arrest in a week in connection with the distribution of counterfeit tablets Levipil 500 (Levetiracetam 500 mg), medicines prescribed to treat epilepsy. At the beginning of this week, Manish Kumar, a partner-Cum-ComTent, was a person of the ArvinD Pharma distributors in Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, arrested for a similar offense.
The latest arrest is followed by a raid carried out on July 5 in the Medical Agency, which is located in Sai Nagar, Doctors Street, Karimnagar, where officials confiscated a consignment of counterfeit tablets Levil 500.
Comparison of doses made by Sun Pharma confirmed that the confiscated tablets were counterfeit. Then Gopal was arrested and made before the next court court in the first class in Karimnagar, who filed him in his judicial custody until 23 July. He is currently in the district prison in Karimnagar.
