Distillery company’s letter to MV Govindan appears

A letter sent by a liquor company to former excise minister and current CPI(M) state secretary MV Govindan in 2021 has surfaced. The letter is said to shed light on the company’s efforts to secure a separate category for soft drinks in Kerala.

The document urged the state government to consider listing low-alcohol drinks in the new category, arguing that the products enjoy significant consumer demand, particularly in tourism-related industries.

She further claimed that the non-availability of such drinks in Kerala prompted many events to be held in destinations like Goa and Puducherry.

Mr. Govindan forwarded the letter to the Chief Secretary, Dana to prepare a proposal and submit recommendations.
