Discarded Ganesh immersion flowers find second life in Cyberabad

Over the past 11 days, about 6,000 kg of flowers have been collected separately from the designated immersion sites as part of the civic body’s efforts to deal with the large amount of waste generated during the festivities.

The flowers discarded by devotees as part of the immersion process are separated and dried before being processed into useful products. The aim of the initiative is to prevent floral waste from being mixed with other waste at immersion sites and to promote more responsible management of festival waste.

The collection of floral waste is part of CMC’s wider measures for the ongoing Ganesh Utsavam. A total of 1,19,667 Ganesha idols have been immersed in Cyberabad as of Friday.

CMC teams were deployed at designated immersion sites to oversee immersion operations and manage sanitation, waste collection, devotee movement, security and other civic services. The civic body said it would continue separate collection of flowers along with other ground-level measures.
