The Directive of the University of Kannur University on the headmasters of universities, which presented action plans for seminars and cultural programs on 14 August to mark the “horror day of the section” according to the Governor’s instructions, brought sharp criticism from organizations and students of teachers. They claimed it was part of the Sangh Parivar agenda “Saffroning”.
The organization of government universities (GCTO), Kannur Zonal Committee, condemned the Directive and called it a politically motivated step.
The GCTo Zonal Committee President of the PS Prakash Committee said the circle issued on 11 August by the Directorate of Student Services on behalf of the Varsity Registrar, ordered universities to organize the campus programs on the eve of Independence Day.
“The basis of India’s independence is the selfless struggle of our great leaders and the academic communities will never accept that it ignores politically controlled stories,” said Varsity Mohammed Ashfas.
The Kannur University Senators forum rang similar views and said that this step was part of the Sangh Parivar agenda and urged the director not to carry out it.
The Shino P. Jose forum said that the academic community would not allow attempts to cover the struggle for freedom led by Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nezru and the Indian National Congress.
The District Committee for Democratic Youth in India organized a protest demonstration in Kannura against the Chancellor’s command. A copy of the order was burned as a sign of protest.
