The former Indian cricket Aakash Chopra was thinking about whether Chennai Super Kings (CSK) used the gap in the rules of Indian Premier League, when they signed Dewald Brevis in South Africa in the 2025 season. Chatter comes after Ravicandran Ashwin revealed that Brevis negotiated Agreement with franchise for the amount higher than its basic price.
Brevis joined CSK as a replacement for injuries for Gurjapneet Singh. Gurjapneet, the Pacer of the left shoulder, was signed at the CRS RS 2,20 in the mega auction. The brevis, which did not sell in this auction, had the basic price of the RS 75 lakh and was part of the registered available pool of the player (RAPP) – a list of players who remain available to franchises in terms of non -extending.
Chopra explained that the price structure pointed out that players signed in the middle of the season are paid on the basis of pro-rat, which means they get part of the salary depending on how many season remain. In this case, Brevis was entitled to at least half of his basic price (RS 37.5 lakh) because he joined in the middle of the season. However, up to half of the wounded player’s salary could also be paid. Given that the Gurjapneet price was RS 2.20 crore, the maximum brevis could officially receive according to the rules around RS 1.10 Crore for the rest of the season 2025.
“He didn’t play the first match, but then fired very well and took an incredible catch on the border. Ashwin revealed that he had applied for more money. Is there any provision to give him more money than he should officially get?
“You will get your total salary based on the ratio. It cannot be lower than your basic price. In the case of Dewald Brevis, it could not be lower than R 75 Lakh and could not be over RS 2.20 crore, salary Gurjapneet Singh,” he added.
Running CSK in the season 2025 was a very disappointment. The team won only 2 of their first 7 games and needed some firepower in the middle order. Brevis, however, added solidity to the middle order. The final dough scored 225 runs in 6 matches at a blistering strike rate of 180.
What was Ashwin’s claim?
Ashwin recently claimed that several franchises had come to Brevis during the IPL 2025, but the agreements could not be completed because they were not ready to pay extra. He argued that CSK agreed to pay the negotiated amount for the security of the player’s service, although he had not confirmed whether it was above the CRORE RS2,20 brand.
According to Chopra Ashwin’s comments, CSK suggests that CSK could pay more than the official limit to keep Brevis in the group for the 2025 season and remember the enchantment of the power of young dough as long -term prospects.
“Ashwin says that players are applying for more money, and according to him, Chennai Super Kings also agreed. If you gave more than RS 2.20 crore, because it is a plan for next year, if you had a gap, you used it,” Chopra said.
Recently, in the ongoing bilateral series between South Africa and Australia, the Brevis became the youngest South African, which hit the Men’s T20is, and now has the second fastest hundreds of 41 balls to their name.
