Did Delhi authorities dump garbage to disrupt Jantar Mantar protests? PIB verifies virus claim | Today’s news
Chaos erupted in parts of Delhi on Saturday as several protesters tried to reach Jantar Mantar for the proposed Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Several videos from the nation’s capital have now surfaced on the Internet. Among them, a viral video showed garbage being dumped on the road to prevent people from reaching the protest site.

Protest at Safdarjung flyover
Meanwhile, protests reportedly broke out in parts of Delhi. Amid the police crackdown, protesters gathered at the Safdarjung flyover.
More than 3,000 protesters detained
According to PTI, the Delhi Police detained more than 3,000 protesters.
These protesters were detained at several places including near Regal Cinema, Minto Bridge and near Akashwani Bhawan.
Police sources said that over 600 people with criminal records were also detained in all districts of the capital as part of preventive measures.
Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Devesh Srivastava told PTI, “We have made elaborate security arrangements today and areas adjacent to border states have been detected in coordination with neighboring police forces. Senior officers have been deployed. Along with this, we are getting cooperation from citizens and our community policing teams like the Amman Committee are working.”
Police asked citizens not to participate in the protests, PTI reported.
“The situation is under control. People going to Jantar Mantar are being detained as we have already said that permission is not given for such protest,” said a senior police officer.
Security has been beefed up in Delhi in view of the protest. Earlier in the day, CJP leaders including Abhijeet Dipke and Saurav Das were detained after their planes landed in Delhi.
Reason for CJP’s protest
The CJP has called a proposed demonstration against CEC Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of electoral roll tampering during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and Form 6 amendments.
