Mumbai Indians’ latest post on X has sparked fresh chatter around Arshdeep Singh’s ‘andher’ on Tilak Varma, with many fans reading it as a sharp response after MI’s win over Punjab Kings. The clip, which celebrated Tilak’s match-winning knock, quickly went viral and brought the already-discussed exchange back into the limelight.
The debate started after a Snapchat video of Arshdeep and Tilak surfaced on the internet on Thursday, May 14. In the clip, the Punjab Kings pacer, known for his outspoken presence on social media, was seen having a light-hearted exchange with the Mumbai Indians, jokingly referring to Tilak as “andher”, teasing him about using sunscreen and pointing to Naman Dhir as a true “noor” from Punjab. While the interaction appeared friendly, several social media users criticized Arshdeep, claiming that the remarks had racist undertones.
However, Tidak seemed unfazed by the noise surrounding the video. The left-hander went on to score 75 off 33 balls to get Mumbai Indians over the line and collect the top prizes after the match. MI then released a video of Tilak with his awards, but the way the clip opened drew attention online.
The video started in the dark with the line “Andhera tera main le liya” from the Channa Mereya song playing in the background. The detail was enough to get fans talking on X and Instagram, with many claiming it was a direct dig at Mumbai Indians’ Arshdeep and the Punjab Kings.
BANNED FOR ARSHDEEP?
The matter also provoked a response from the former Indian spinner and commentator Laxman Sivaramakrishnanwho said the BCCI should take action against Arshdeep for the remarks against Tilak. “I told you guys. Tilak can’t say anything now because he is at the beginning of his career. But BCCI can intervene with this evidence,” Sivaramakrishnan said.
So far, there have been no official comments from Arshdeep, Punjab Kings, IPL or Tilak Varma on the controversy. But with MI’s post adding another layer to an already sensitive exchange, the episode continued to gain attention online.
