Dhurandhar, the most awaited film, started airing on digital screens on January 30 at midnight. While many rushed to Netflix to rewatch the Ranveer Singh starrer, others who didn’t get a chance to watch it in theaters also tuned in. However, the cuts of Aditya Dhar’s directorial debut on the OTT platform did not take social media by storm.
Available in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, the blockbuster movie made its debut on the OTT screens with a major makeover. The censored version drew a lot of backlash with users expressing frustration at X for cutting nearly 10 minutes of the film. This was in stark contrast to their expectations, who wished to watch an uncensored version including “deleted scenes” of the original film. Complaints flooded the internet as viewers accused the streaming platform of muting dialogue and censoring offensive language.
A user wrote, “#Dhurandhar Runtime on Netflix is 3H 25M as it is derived from Theatrical Cut 208 min ie 3H 28M. The 214 min version (3H 34M) was probably removed from theaters and replaced with this 208 min version.”
Another user commented: “Big disappointment from you people @NetflixIndia Why the hell would you censor this when everyone is expecting an uncensored version 🤦🏻♂️👎🏻!! Censoring an A rated movie is a joke while Animal and Kabir Singh have no cuts. Go h**l!”
A third comment read: “Chii @NetflixIndia ruined my mood, I needed the uncensored version.”
A fourth viewer said: “You’re certifying the movie as an A, but you have muted/censored words! Like are we a bunch of 5 year olds or what? Everyone on this app is over 18, there’s no point in watching a movie with lots of cuts and censorship. You’re just stealing the natural raw atmosphere.”
While many called for an uncensored version to be released, a user said: “Cut version, uhh, parts were deleted for about 10 minutes!”
A sixth user said: “It’s not the uncensored version, disappointed.”
A seventh user wrote: “The beeped words and edited dialogue are the same as on Netflix.
