Main Minister Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the main culprit was identified for the placement of cattle near the Hanuman temple in Dhubri during ID-UL-AZHA.
The man who tried to trigger municipal fire should give up, he said after assessing the situation in the law and order in the western city of Assam on Tuesday, June 24, 2025).
“MasterMind was identified as Mintu Ali. Currently, his mobile phone has been shut down. I ask him to give up,” Sarma said, adding that 151 people have been arrested so far.
The main minister said Dhubri remained calm since the government took strict measures two weeks ago. “We are planning long -term measures, including the establishment of an army camp,” he said.
He also said that measures against officials in the animal breeding department would be taken for letting 1,460 cows enter Dhubri from the neighboring West Bengal before Id-Id-Azha.
Mr. Sarma reminded people of the Assam cattle law from 2021, which prohibits beef consumption and sale within 5 km in the Buddhist, Hindu, Jain and Sikh worship.
The main minister also announced the bumper zone without beef around iconic Dhubri’s iconic Gurdware Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib and advised beef sellers to close shops or face police action.
He also said that the police were investigating deeper into “Nabin Bangla”, a new group that allegedly dealt with the merger of the Dhubri district with Bangladesh.
