DGP Shivadhar Reddy during his visit to Constable Pramod residence in Nizamabad on Tuesday.
Telangana Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy on Tuesday assured the family of constable M. Pramod Kumar that the police department and the government would stand firm with them.
Pramod Kumar, a CCS constable from Nizamabad, was recently killed while escorting the accused, Sheikh Riyaz, who allegedly murdered him in custody.
The DGP accompanied by Multi-Zone IG S. Chandrasekhar Reddy, Nizamabad Collector T. Vinay Krishna Reddy and other officials visited the constable’s residence in Nizamabad to console the bereaved family. He said he had gone through the special instructions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and expressed his condolences, terming the incident as deeply unfortunate. The DGP reiterated that the government had announced an exgratia of ₹1 crore, a residential plot of 300 square yards, pension benefits and a government job for one family member. He added that the department will provide all necessary support and assistance to the family.
Later, at the Nizamabad Commissionerate, DGP Shivadhar Reddy, along with Nizamabad Rural MLA R. Bhoopathi Reddy and the District Collector distributed house documents to the families of the nine police martyrs.
The DGP said that since 1989, 18 policemen from the district had laid down their lives in the line of duty and nine of their families had been allotted 300 square yard plots at Gannaram village in Indalwai Mandal. He added that the remaining families would also be provided plots in the same area once they apply and thanked the district collector for their cooperation.
The DGP said the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy-led government attaches utmost importance to the welfare of the families of police martyrs and recognizes their sacrifice in maintaining law and order. He recalled that as part of Police Martyrs’ Memorial Day in Gajularamaram, residential plots measuring 200 square yards were allotted to the families of long pending cases. He also referred to the 2008 Andhra-Odisha border incident in which 33 policemen were martyred and said the government had recently allotted housing to their families as well.
Meanwhile, Nizamabad Rural MLA Bhoopathi Reddy suggested that Syed Asif, a young man from Sarangapur who was seriously injured while helping the police nab accused Sheikh Riyaz, should be offered the post of home guard. The DGP responded in the affirmative and said that the government would soon issue a notification for the recruitment of home guards and assured that efforts would be made to secure the job for Mr. Asif.
