In a significant step that will have a long -term impact on the coming years, the state government has expanded the service of ALOK Mohan, CEO and General Inspector (DG & IGP), State Police of Karnataka to ensure that it gets a two -year tenure. Otherwise he would retire 30 April.
This is the first such case in the State where DG & IGP has been extended to ensure at least two years of tenure. This will become a precedent and those who follow the allocation of Mohan as the head of the Police forces (HOPF) in Karnatation, but they will probably have less than two years out of this step, are left of this step.
The duration of at least two years was part of the instructions laid down by the Supreme Court in the case of Prakash Singh, which led to police reforms in the country. After the order of the Supreme Court, the Government of Karnatak added a change in the Karnatak Police Act of 1963 and added a clause that DG & IGP will have a holding for at least two years. Although this clause remains in the books to this day, the government submitted an affidavit to the Supreme Court in 2019–2020, provoking a commitment to the court judgment of Prakash Singh.
After this honorable statement, the Neelmans N. Raja and Poleen Sood, who led the state police forces, had for more than two years before retirement. The question of extending over their pension was not created. However, this question came to the forefront when Alok Mohan had less than a two -year term.
Although Mr. Sood was appointed director, Central Investigation Office (CBI), Mr. Mohan took the lead as an authorized DG and IGP of the State Police on 21 May 2023. His appointment was confirmed on August 5, 2023.
