Panyam MLA Gowru Charitha Reddy on Monday performed ‘bhumi puja’ for the tank development work to be done under the ‘Jalaharathi’ initiative at Shakunala Thippayapalli village in Orvakal mandal.

After the commencement of the work, Mrs. Charitha Reddy said that the government is taking various measures to conserve water resources in rural areas and to increase the groundwater level. She said that development works worth ₹ 1 crore have been sanctioned for rehabilitation of reservoirs, dewatering operations and initiatives to increase water storage capacity.

The development of these reservoirs will not only improve irrigation facilities for farmers but will also help alleviate the problem of water scarcity in the future, the MLA said. She added that job opportunities were also provided to rural laborers as the work was done under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA).
