“In view of criticism from the opposition that the state government has run out of funds, we are continuing to jointly implement development and social programs on a large scale,” Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said in Karwar on Sunday.
“The BJP, which has constantly criticized our administration, did not initiate any development work for Karwar or for Uttara Kannada when it was in power. It ignored the infrastructural needs of the district. But we are working for the equitable development of all regions of the state. I would like to inform you that the Congress government has spent around ₹ 1.18 crore, out of five ₹ 2.9 crore guarantee schemes. 54 crore has been spent on programs in Uttara Kannada, development works, including infrastructure projects, health and education programmes, livelihood and industrialization initiatives, they are continuing along with social welfare programs like guarantee schemes, but the people of the state are very aware of our development programmes.
He was speaking after inaugurating a multi-speciality hospital built on the premises of Karwar Institute of Medical Sciences (KRIMS) and launching other programmes.
The Chief Minister said that Karwar will get a super-specialty hospital in the next budget. “The work on the super specialty hospital will start soon and I will inaugurate it. The state government is determined to start government medical colleges in every district. We already have 22 government medical colleges. We will start such institutions in Kolar, Puttur and Vijayapura in the coming years. In our first term in 2016, we approved KRIMS. We have allocated ₹ 200,04 per hospital. It will help people in this neighborhood who were earlier forced to travel long distances to Mangaluru, Udupi or Hubballi to get medical treatment,” he said.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said he was working with legislators and officials to find solutions to the problems of people in all districts.
“I firmly believe that serving people means serving God. We will continue to serve people regardless of what others say,” he said.
