
The government is taking steps to increase six units of strokes in public hospitals in the State to the World Organization (WSO) and NABH Standards, a statement issued by the Minister of Health Veen George.
Six units of stroke under the medical services – General Hospital in Thiruvananthapurama, Pathanamthita, Ernakula and Kozhikode and two district hospitals in Kollam and Palakkad – are preparing for two accreditation processes at the same time in the first phase.
In the next phase, stroke units in other hospitals would be admitted for accreditation.
The Minister said it was the first time the only wing of the hospital was prepared for accreditation.
WSO certification is provided for those institutions that maintain international stroke standards that make stroke care available in fixed time, and those that ensure that patients are offered necessary diagnostics and thrombolysis devices by eliminating all processes delay.
Basic infrastructure, equipment and training for accreditation are performed by medical department.
Many can only be managed efficiently only if the patient is brought to the Center for Care of Stroke during the first four and a half hours, when thrombolysis can be effective. In addition to medical faculties in the state, 12 government hospitals also have a stroke unit of care, which offers thrombolysis, stroke rehabilitation and stabilization stabilization.
By the end of the year, all district hospitals would be equipped with stroke care units, the statement said.
