Pallavaram Assembly constituency is known for many things, for people who have a strong sense of smell, there is a talc factory and olfactory marker leather units. Although this tantalizing smell lingers at this place on GST Road, residents of many places have no choice but to accept the foul smell of poorly laid underground sewer lines that are cracking and bursting due to age and quality issues.
“These lines were laid between 2006 and 2011 at a cost of ₹71 crore. You can see raw sewage bubbling up in our streets because quality pipes were not used at that time. Now there is another proposal to restore the line at a cost of ₹890 crore. Let’s hope they work properly,” said the Palavaramugai Federation and Palalfare Murugai Association.
