Lucknow Super Giants opener Aiden Markram has revealed that fast bowler Mayank Yadav is ‘fit and fire’ ahead of the next Indian Premier League match against Rajasthan Royals. One of the fastest bowlers India has ever produced, Mayank has not played a single match this season.
The right-arm paceman has endured regular injury setbacks, most notably dealing with a severe lower back stress fracture that ruled him out for most of the Indian Premier League last season and the opening part of the current campaign.
Mayank last appeared for the franchise in May 2025 against Punjab Kings where he went wicketless conceding 60 runs in his four overs. The New Delhi-born bowler played just two matches last season, picking up two wickets against Mumbai Indians before being sidelined again due to injury.
“The last I heard is that he is fit and firing,” Markram told reporters ahead of their clash with Rajasthan Royals at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on April 22. “Fitting and shooting Mayank Yadav adds a lot of headaches to any team he is in, he is an X-factor player.
The 156.7 kmph fast bowler came into limelight after a sensational debut in IPL 2024, but has since struggled with injuries after pushing his body to the limit.
DOMESTIC PROBLEMS LSG
LSG suffered a poor run in their home matches suffered three consecutive losses in the ongoing IPL season. The franchise is currently ninth in the standings having won just two of their first six games, with a Net Run Rate of -1.173.
“You want to make your home a fortress and play for your fans,” added Markram, who himself has struggled with the bat this season. Ahead of the match against Rajasthan, he acknowledged that the management group will assess the pitch conditions and finalize the playing eleven based on tactical requirements.
“We’ve got two games back to back here and if we can have two good games then hopefully we’re back in the competition where we want to be,” he said.
After taking on Rajasthan Royals, Lucknow Super Giants will host another struggling team, Kolkata Knight Riders, at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on April 26.
