Since coconut oil prices pass through the roof, the agriculture department plans to deliver it to lower rates through Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco), said the Minister of Agriculture P. Prasad.
The department together with the cooperative federation of coconers of Coconut Farmers LTD from Keral (Kerafed), which sells Kero coconut oil, examines the possibilities of supplying it for affordable rates during the upcoming season.
The agriculture department is dealing with Supplyco in this respect, he said.
Kerafed has already started measures for awarding public procurement for coconut procurement 1 higher than market rates from the farmer, Prasad said. This will serve to ensure an adequate offer of quality coconut oil in the state, he said. The government decided to enter with the Public Procurement Plan, due to the need to prevent the sale of falsified coconut oil in the current situation, the minister said.
