The Boeing 767 with Atlanta, which worked as a flight 446, was forced to carry out an emergency landing in Los Angeles as a preventive measure on Friday moments after takeoff due to engine failure.
The video shows flames coming from one side of the aircraft. No one was injured. The fire went out while landing.
According to AVIATION A2Z report, the aircraft (24-year-old Boeing 767-400 with N836MH) has just deviated from the Los Angeles International Airport (Lax) when its left engine lit. Pilots immediately announced an emergency situation and asked to return to the airport. Air traffic control (ATC) provided the aircraft instructions to go back to Lax and announce ground emergency crews.
Flightradar24 data suggests that the DL446 flight got across the Pacific Ocean before redirecting inland, flying through the Downey and Paramount areas. This route allowed the flight crew to perform the necessary safety protocols and prepare for landing. During the maneuver, the plane held consistent altitude and speed of flight.
“The Delta 446 flight returned to Los Angeles shortly after departure after a hint of a problem with the left engine of the aircraft,” BBC spokesman Delta Air Lines quoted as a proverb. According to passengers, the captain told them that the firefighting crews “verify that the engine fire is out”.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) launched a probe to assess the cause of the fire. The aircraft is equipped with two general electric CF6 engines, reports said.
It’s not the first flight incident Delta this year
In April, the Delta aircraft met at Orlando International Airport. The flight of Delta Air Lines 1213 was preparing to go to Atlanta when a fire broke out on the ramp. The involved aircraft, Airbus A330, had 282 passengers on board with 10 flight attendants and two pilots. Everyone was safely evacuated and there was no injury.
The reactions of the emergency reactions and fire brigade units at Orlando Airport operated quickly to control the incident.
