Fisherfolk across 28 coastal villages in the Mayiladuthurai, Karaikal and Nagapattinam districts organized creative protests on Monday that attracted collars in front of their homes and held tags in solidarity with the second conferences of the ocean nations (C-OP2), convened by the world fishermen’s Peoples.
The global online conference with the topic “defying colonial capitalism: The connection for the future of the country and oceans” combines more than 10 million fishing fruits from 50 countries.
In Tamil Nadu and Puduchherry in Mayiladuthurai, Fishing Communities from Chandirapadi, Kuttiyandiyur, Slampkoil, Perumalpettai, Puduptai, Chinnangudi, Chinnagiri, Poombuhar, Poombuhar, Palaiyar Chinnaimedu and Thoduvai.
In Nagapattinam, solidarity events of the place in Nagore, Samanthanpettai, Nambiyarnagar, New Zambiyarnagar and New Kallar. Meanwhile, in the Karaikal, VERE was held in Mandapathura, Kalippam, Akkampettai, KottcherryMed, Kasakudymed, Kilinjalmed, Karaikalmed, Karukkkalacharry and TR Pattinam.
WFFP reaffirmed the usual sea rights, rejected initiatives with a blue economy of managed companies, called for the privatization of the ocean to stop, and demanded the restitution of sea territories to the coastal communities.
