Delta Air Lines lit a plane on Monday morning at the Orlando International Airport in Florida just before the planned departure. The fire that broke out around 11:15 was in one of the Airbus A330 engines, while the plane was on the ramp and was preparing to take off at Atlanta.
No injuries were reported
“The engine fire broke out late Monday morning on the Delta Air Lines 1213 flight,” the airport officials said on social media. “The plane was on the ramp before the scheduled departure from Orlando to Atlanta.”
A quick response and evacuation
Delta Air Lines confirmed that the aircraft carried 282 passengers, 10 flight attendants and two pilots. When the flames were observed in the tail of one of the aircraft engines, the flight crew immediately monitored evacuation procedures to ensure the safety of all on board.
“Delta flight crews followed the procedures to evacuate the passenger cabin when the flames in the tail of one of the two engines were observed,” the airline said in a press release.
The Orlando International Airport Rescue and Fire Team and the fire team responded immediately to the fire. Fortunately, no injuries between passengers, stewardesses or pilots were reported.
FAA investigations are underway
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has initiated an incident investigation to determine the cause of the engine fire. Delta Air Lines also said that its maintenance teams would explore the aircraft to collect further information.
“Maintenance teams will explore the plane in an effort to determine the cause of the fire,” Delta said.
Increased concerns about air safety
This incident comes on the heels of other recent calls and accidents that caused concerns about the US air security.
At the beginning of this year, the American Airlines and other incidents such as the Delta flight in Toronto and Japanese Airlines, which cut the parked Delta in Seattle, caused extensive concern.
