
A van driver was killed in a road accident in Delhi early Saturday morning after a speeder hit his two-wheeler. Delhi Police has arrested a 27-year-old youth who hit a van driver on the route leading to Rajouri Garden near the Subhash Nagar Metro red light on Najafgarh Road, ANI reported.
The accused identified as Mohit Kumar, son of Rajesh Kumar, is an MCD contractor who lives in Najafgarh. Mohit Kumar was behind the wheel of a Hyundai Verna which was involved in a road accident. He was taken into custody and charged by the concerned Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) section.
“The driver of the car, Mohit Kumar, a resident of Najafgarh, who works as an MCD contractor, was apprehended on the spot and his vehicle seized,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Darade Sharad Bhaskar was quoted as saying by PTI.
The police team was first informed about the incident at around 3.26 am. The Tilak Nagar police station received a PCR call following a fatal accident that claimed the life of a 25-year-old delivery driver working for a convenience store company. The victim, identified as Hem Shakar, a resident of Raghubir Nagar, was riding an electric scooter at the time of the accident. He was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital (DDU) where he was declared brought dead on arrival. “The MLC’s information has been received,” ANI quoted the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) West District as saying.
According to eyewitnesses, a Hyundai Verna car allegedly hit the e-scooter from behind. Police seized Mohit Kumar’s car and lodged an FIR for further legal action.
A gas cylinder blast in southeast Delhi injured 3
In an unrelated incident on the same day, a Delhi couple and their 22-year-old son suffered burns after a suspected gas cylinder exploded in their home. The tragic incident took place at Madanpur Khadar in southeast Delhi, an official from Delhi Fire Services told PTI.
The injured father, identified as 60-year-old Jagdish, suffered about 80 per cent burns. His wife Laxmi suffered about 70 per cent burns, while their son Jatin suffered nearly 25 per cent burns. DFS received an emergency call at 4:46 a.m., after which three fire engines responded to the scene.
“All the three injured were taken to Safdarjung Hospital by ambulance,” PTI quoted a DFS officer as saying.
