Returning to the Vijay Hazare Trophy after almost 15 years, Virat Kohli marked the occasion in trademark style and smashed a century to reaffirm his mastery of the 50-over format.
Chasing 299 runs, the master chaser rolled back the years to produce a vintage performance to lead the charge in the 2nd innings for Delhi.
He was quite aggressive in his batting, scoring 118 off 94 deliveries in that time and continues to lead the home team’s chase. His offside game, which was often the area where he was targeted, was spot on this time as he hit five boundaries over covers. Kohli even targeted the covers and the long boundary ropes to hit three sixes with his knock so far. Another aspect that has been prevalent when Kohli has hit the big time is his running between the wickets. 37 of his runs came from singles alone, combined with 8 runs that also came from doubles.
Virat Kohli also marked his return to domestic cricket with another major milestone, becoming the second Indian batsman after Sachin Tendulkar to complete 16,000 runs in List A cricket. He reached 16,000 runs in 343 matches. Kohli is now the ninth batsman overall to do so, joining an elite global list. He also boasts the highest batting average among all List A players with 16,000 runs, highlighting his consistency and longevity in the 50-over format.
