In the extraordinary talent and calm show, nine -year -old Aarit Kapil from Delhi got into the beard that he defeated the ruling world number one Magnus Carlsen in a collision of high bets during the “Early called Tuesday”, held on the main online platform on Wednesday 25 June.
He plays from his hotel room in Georgia, where he is currently competing at the World Championship under 10 years, Aarit has faced five -time world champion with Pois far over his years. For most of the match, Indian miracles held on top, even Carlsen’s maneuvering into what the analysts later called the “completely lost position”.
With Rook Versus, two tiny pieces in the final end game had an Aarit advantage that could write a defeat for one of the biggest players who had ever played sport. However, when the clock ticks down and the remaining seconds, he was unable to convert victory and had to settle for a well -earned draw. Yet the show sent shock waves through the chess world – the release of players, let alone schoolchildren, approached the overthrow of Carlsen.
Who is Aarit Kapil?
Aarit Kapil quickly becomes one of the most spoken young names in the global chess circuit. He came from Delhi and made subtitles for the first time in December 2024 by defeating the Grand Master Raset Ziatdinov at the Kiit International Open in Bhubaneswar. In just nine or two months and eighteen days, Aarit became the youngest Indian who has ever defeated GM in a classic game, and the third youngest worldwide-so Singapore’s Ashwath Kushik and Leonid Ivanovic.
Aarit, known for his peaceful temperament and sharp tactical eye, earned a late mistake in Ziathdin in this game to claim the stunning victory of 63 movement. Since then, Elo’s top evaluation has maintained around 1825 and continues to dominate its age group in national and international competitions.
Aarit Kapil holds the title of Master’s candidate (cm), which was achieved in 2025. This FIDE title usually requires that the player at some point in their career to achieve 2200. While the title of CM is usually awarded on the basis of a rating, Fide can also provide it for exceptional performances in international youth events or in continental championships, even though the threshold has not been met.
Aarit, who is currently competing for the stage at the World Championship under 10 years, has already secured victory in the first two rounds and seems to convert this dynamics forward. With upcoming events such as Indian Under-13 and Under-9 Championships on Horizon, Aarit will make more subtitles in the coming days.
