All non-BS-VI compliant commercial trucks registered outside Delhi will be banned from entering the national capital from November 1, as per Air Quality Management Commission guidelines.
BS-VI compliant vehicles meet stricter emission norms, helping to reduce pollution.
A public notification issued by the transport ministry said that BS-IV commercial trucks will be allowed to enter Delhi till October 31, 2026 as a transitional measure.
Rules for Trucks in Delhi
However, there are no restrictions on the entry of Delhi-registered commercial trucks, BS-VI compliant diesel vehicles, BS-IV compliant diesel vehicles till October 31, 2026 or CNG, LNG or electricity vehicles.
The announcement added that the restrictions under the various phases of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) for commercial vehicles will continue to apply during the period of validity of the particular phase.
In a meeting held on October 17, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) approved a blanket ban on polluting commercial vehicles from entering Delhi from November 1, amid the city’s pollution concerns.
Transporters hoped that the government could extend the relaxation for entry of BS-IV compliant vehicles into Delhi.
Bhim Wadhawa of All India Motor Transport Congress said that there is a period of one year for them during which BS-IV compliant vehicles will be allowed to enter.
Rajendra Kapoor of the All India Motor and Goods Transport Association said they would hold a meeting to discuss the way forward.
“The Supreme Court has given an order. If we want entry restrictions on BS-IV compliant vehicles not to be imposed even after one year, we will have to approach the court. We will meet next week to decide what needs to be done,” he added.
