Delhi woke up to a cold, foggy morning on Friday with dust storms affecting visibility across the capital.
Visuals from Delhi on Friday morning showed dust storms sweeping through the city, obscuring visibility in several parts.
Weather forecast for Friday
In its latest bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a pleasant day for the national capital on Friday, April 3.
According to the IMD, Delhi will have generally cloudy skies for most of Friday, with rain forecast later in the day – a period of light rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and wind gusts of up to 40 kmph.
Despite the forecast of rain, the IMD has not issued any weather warnings for Friday.
Maximum temperatures on Friday are expected to range from 32 to 34 °C, compared to Thursday’s 36.8 °C. The minimum temperatures on Friday should be around 20-22 °C.
Friday’s unexpectedly cool weather – a continuing effect of western disturbances – marks a shift from last month’s high temperatures, with Delhi experiencing its warmest March in 50 years on March 9.
Yellow alert on Saturday
While Friday should be pleasant for residents of the nation’s capital, Saturday could be significantly wetter.
The IMD has issued a yellow rain alert for Delhi on Saturday, April 4, warning of one or two spells of very light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Wind speeds are expected to remain in the 30 to 40 km/h range on Saturday, with gusts reaching 50 km/h in the afternoon and evening.
Continued rain
Light rains are expected to continue in the capital in the coming days, with the IMD forecasting generally cloudy skies and light rain and thundershowers till Wednesday, April 8.
The only exception is April 6 — residents of the capital can expect partly cloudy skies on Monday and no rain in the forecast.
