Delhi violence: 10-year-old boy lands in ICU after mob attack in Mayur Vihar | Today’s news
A 10-year-old boy was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after a mob allegedly invaded a residential society in east Delhi. Mayur Vihar Phase-3 on Sunday evening, leaving about 10 to 15 injured. Residents claimed the violence erupted after some locals protested the alleged teasing of a young woman.
As he states News 18eyewitnesses claimed that a group of about 10 to 15 men entered the housing association and attacked residents, causing panic in the locality.
According to residents, the confrontation began when several people intervened after witnessing the alleged harassment of the woman. They alleged that one of the accused later returned with some associates, after which the group allegedly launched an attack inside the company.
Residents said News 18 that several people were attacked during the violence, while nearly 10 to 15 persons were injured. Among the injured was a 10-year-old boy who suffered serious injuries and remains hospitalized in the ICU. According to the boy’s family, he was accompanying his cousin, who is around 27 to 28 years old, to take photographs when they were caught in the act of violence.
The family claims the attackers used stones and wooden sticks
The injured boy’s sister claimed that the attackers were armed with stones and wooden sticks. She said, “One of them had a big stone in his hand. He was also carrying a wooden staff. It was quite wide and even had nails in it.” She further claimed that her family saw only three persons directly carry out the attack.
The sister also claimed that one of the accused is a resident of Gharoili area in Mayur Vihar Phase-3. Photos of the suspected attacker have already been handed over to the Delhi Police as part of the investigation.
AAP MLA questions law and order; the police are opening an investigation
According to News 18Aam Aadmi Party MLAs Kuldeep Kumar also reacted to the incident, questioning the law and order situation in the state capital. He alleged that the violence took place even though the police base was located barely 500 meters away from the housing society.
The lawmaker said he visited the site on Sunday evening and met with residents who expressed fear and anger over the incident. Kumar further claimed that the criminals acted without fear despite Delhi having what he described as a “four-engine government” and urged Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to ensure that those responsible are arrested without delay.
Meantime, News 18 announced that the Delhi Police has launched an investigation into the incident and is working to identify those involved. Authorities are investigating residents’ allegations and gathering evidence as part of the investigation. No official details regarding the arrest had been announced at the time of the report.
