Delhi Traffic Update: CR Park, GK-2 traffic curbs from 4pm Saturday to midnight till October 20; check alternatives | Today’s news
Traffic jams are expected on several major roads in South Delhi over the next few days as devotees gather for Durga Puja celebrations at Chittaranjan Park (CR Park) and Greater Kailash-2 (GK-2).
The Delhi Traffic Police has warned of possible traffic disruption on eight major roads around the two locations due to the expected arrival of a large number of devotees.
Traffic restrictions will remain in place daily from 4pm to midnight until 20 October. Private vehicles belonging to devotees will not be allowed to enter CR Park and Greater Kailash-2 during these hours.
Delhi Traffic Alert: Which roads may be affected?
According to the traffic police, the following roads and sections may be affected by congestion:
- Outer Ring Road: From Vasant Vihar to Modi Mill Flyover.
- Lala Lajpat Rai Marg: Near CR Park.
- August Kranti Marg: Between Ring Road and Outer Ring Road.
- Mehrauli-Badarpur Road: From Khanpur to Jamia Hamdard.
- Guru Ravidas Marg: Certain stretches.
- Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg: Certain sections.
- Josip Broz Tito Marg: Certain sections.
- Internal Roads: Within CR Park and Greater Kailash-2.
Motorists traveling through these areas were advised to expect possible delays, especially in the evening hours.
Why are there traffic restrictions?
Durga Puja pandals are located in residential colonies where roads are relatively narrow and parking options are limited. The expected influx of devotees arriving in private vehicles could lead to parking problems and traffic congestion.
The traffic police warned motorists against unauthorized parking in the affected areas. Improperly parked vehicles or vehicles that obstruct traffic may be towed and action must be taken in accordance with regulations.
Delhi Metro: Which stations can devotees use?
The traffic police advised devotees to use the Delhi Metro to travel to CR Park to avoid traffic jams on the roads around the pandals.
Visitors can alight at Greater Kailash and Nehru Enclave metro stations and walk to the pandals.
Motorists were also urged to avoid the affected routes unless necessary, allow extended travel times and follow instructions issued by traffic personnel deployed in the area.
Delhi Traffic Alert: What should commuters remember?
As large crowds are expected at Durga Puja pandals during the evenings, commuters via South Delhi should check road conditions before leaving and consider alternative routes if necessary.
Party-goers have been urged to use public transport, while other motorists should plan their journeys around the restrictions in place until 20 October.
