The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a warning to commuters against potential disruptions in and around Connaught Place starting at 3 pm on Friday ahead of the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) planned Tiranga march and Central Park rally.

Check route diversions, restricted areas and more:

Taking to social media platform X, the Delhi Traffic Police urged citizens to plan their journeys in advance, allow extra time and rely on public transport whenever possible to avoid traffic jams.

According to the notice, dynamic traffic diversions will be implemented during the afternoon according to the terrain situation.

Commuters have been advised to follow the official social media of the Delhi Traffic Police for real-time route updates and follow the instructions of the deployed traffic personnel.

As a precautionary measure, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Thursday announced that Central Park in Connaught Place will remain closed to the public on October 16 and 17 for “administrative reasons”.

List of 20 roads to avoid

Authorities have identified several key arteries and intersections across central Delhi where vehicular movement will be restricted or diverted. Commuters are advised to avoid the following 20 roads and sections:

Shaheed Bhagat Singh Marg

Ashok Road (from GPO to C-Hexagon)

Prohibitory Orders

Security in central Delhi has also been significantly beefed up.

Delhi Police noted that a ban under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which restricts large public gatherings, is already in place in Connaught Place and its adjoining areas.

While appealing to protesters not to violate the bans, police said they may consider taking special measures to allow a select group of individuals to gather at a designated convenient location to carry the national flag and sing the national anthem.

Security measures were also discussed in the Delhi High Court on Thursday. The Delhi Police assured a bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Nitin Wasude Sambra and Justice Sanjay Sharma that all possible legal measures would be taken to handle the proposed protest.

The court’s intervention came after Anil Kumar Gupta, a licensed street vendor in Palika Bazar, filed a plea expressing concern over possible disruption of commercial activities in the area.
