
An initial probe by the Delhi Police into the high-intensity explosion outside the Red Fort suggests that the Hyundai i20 was traced to Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district, news agency ANI reported, citing sources in Delhi.
The car in which the blast took place was reportedly bought by a resident of Pulwama, the report said. Delhi Police has also obtained CCTV footage showing the suspect car entering and exiting the parking lot near the Red Fort, the report said.
Footage indicates the suspect was alone at the time. “Investigators are now tracing the route towards Daryaganj while more than 100 CCTV clips, including footage from nearby toll booths, are being examined to ascertain the complete movement of the vehicle,” sources told news agency ANI.
Following the high-intensity blast outside the Red Fort, Delhi Police teams conducted a massive night-time search operation in hotels in Paharganj, Daryaganj and nearby areas.
All hotel registers were thoroughly examined during the raids. During the operation, four people were taken into custody for questioning.
At least eight people were killed and several injured in a high-intensity explosion near Red Fort on Monday evening.
According to the Delhi Police, CCTV footage from various locations including from Badarpur border to Sunheri Masjid parking area of Red Fort and also from Outer Ring Road to Kashmir Gate-Red Fort route was carefully checked.
Almost 200 police officers were involved in examining the footage across various routes.
According to sources, the i20 car in which the blast took place entered Delhi from Haryana via Badarpur.
13 people under scrutiny
Around 13 people are currently being investigated and questioned based on CCTV evidence from various locations. A person associated with the Faridabad module is suspected to have been traveling in the i20 car, though the identity of the deceased individual will be confirmed only after DNA testing.
This comes after a joint recovery of 360 kg of explosive material and ammunition from Faridabad in Haryana by the Jammu, Kashmir and Haryana Police during which two persons, Dr. Muzammil and Aadil Rather.
The Delhi Police has also registered a case in connection with the blast under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Explosives Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act.
A case was registered under Sections 16, 18 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and various sections of Explosives Act and BNS at Kotwali police station.
