
Air quality in Delhi reported a significant improvement on Wednesday morning after heavy downpour brought down the AQI level. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a below normal maximum temperature while the minimum temperature is expected to settle in the normal range today.
The IMD weather forecast for January 28 states: “Generally cloudy skies. Shallow to moderate fog during morning hours. Maximum and minimum temperatures over Delhi are likely to be in the range of 17°C to 19°C and 11°C to 13°C respectively. Minimum temperatures will be above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C (approx. 1 to 3.0°C) and maximum possible temperatures will be -5.0°C) over Delhi.”

The Met Office has forecast fresh showers on February 1 and issued a yellow warning for them. The IMD suggested low visibility till Friday during morning and night hours and said: “Dense fog also likely during morning/night hours in isolated pockets over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh and Delhi during 28-30
According to IMD, a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from the night of January 30. With Punjab, Haryana and Himachal witnessing cold wave conditions, residents of Delhi can expect the minimum temperature to drop by around 5 to 6 degrees Celsius by January 30.
Forecasting ‘overcast’ conditions for the coming days except for 29th and 31st January when it is likely to be partly clear. Shallow to moderate fog is likely during the morning hours of January 29 to February 2, 2026, the IMD said.
Delhi AQI today
Recent heavy showers brought relief from toxic air quality as the AQI dropped from “very bad” to “poor” on Wednesday. At 9 am, Delhi reported an average air quality index (AQI) of 260, a marked improvement from 336 recorded yesterday, according to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data. Out of 39 monitoring stations in Delhi, 6 registered “medium” AQI. Meanwhile, 9 stations recorded “very poor” AQI, while the rest fell into the “poor” category.
