Air quality in several parts of Delhi continued to remain “very poor” on Tuesday. Ashok Vihar (305), Bawana (342), Anand Vihar (319), Chandani Chowk (333) and Dwarka (314) remained in the ‘very poor’ category
The AQI around India Gate and Kartavya Path remained around 265, which is categorized as ‘poor’ by the CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board).
The AQI around Ghazipur was reported as 319, categorized as “Very Bad”.
The AQI around Akshardham area was also 319.
A layer of toxic smoke enveloped the ITO area where an AQI of around 294 was reported.
The AQI of Anand Vihar area is also 319.
According to the AQI categorization, 0-50 is “good”, 51-100 is “satisfactory”, 101-200 is “moderate”, 201-300 is “bad”, 301-400 is “very bad”, and 401-500 is “severe”.
An AQI between 0 and 50 is classified as “good”, meaning minimal or no impact on health. AQI levels from 51 to 100 fall into the “Satisfactory” category, where air quality remains acceptable, although sensitive groups such as children, the elderly and those with respiratory problems may experience some discomfort.
The “moderate” category, ranging from 101 to 200, signals increasing levels of pollution that can cause breathing problems in people with asthma, lung disease or heart disease.
An AQI between 201 and 300 is considered “bad,” the range at which long-term exposure can cause breathing difficulties for most people, not just those with pre-existing health conditions.
Kartavya Path is protesting the order to be passed today
A Delhi court will also today grant bail to several persons who were arrested during a protest against deteriorating air quality in the city on Kartavya Road on November 23.
The bail plea order was postponed to December 9 as Justice Aridaman Singh Cheema fell ill, according to a PTI report.
Protesters were accused of shouting controversial slogans and using pepper spray on police who tried to detain them.
A number of those arrested are students and their lawyers appealed that their clients had exams soon and the bail order must be released “urgently”, a PTI report said.
