New Delhi:The Delhi Public Work Officer (PWD) was suspended on Tuesday after the Civic Body Contribution to X showed that workers who cause drains without security equipment met with the opposition online.
However, Main Minister Delhi, Rekha Gupta, argued that her government was following all the instructions for convictions to the court.
At the beginning of the day, PWD published four images on X showing half -naked workers connected to drainage cleaning.
The post was later deleted after several X users criticized the government of obvious apathy against workers’ security.
At a press conference, when she was asked for a post, Gupta said that not every drain could be cleaned by machines.
“Every drain has its own situation. Every drain may not be able to function. It is possible that the machines have been drained where the machines were not able to function. The government’s goal is to completely improve all the drains. The work is done with court instructions,” she said.
PWD manager said that a junior engineer has been suspended since workers did not work in safety equipment.
“The work that was carried out concerned rainwater drainage and not a sewer pipe and therefore cannot be called manual cleaning.
According to data shared with Parliament in 2023, more than 400 people died in septic tank cleaning in India in 2018 to 2023.
According to the data, there were 76 deaths in 2018, 133 in 2019, 35 in 2020, 66 in 2021, 84 in 2022 and 49 in 2023.
