Residents of Delhi-NCR woke up to overcast skies and cooler weather on Saturday, even as the southwest monsoon had already left the capital.
However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rain, thundershowers and strong winds for the region in the coming days.
A new weather system is looming over Delhi-NCR
Monsoon withdrew from Delhi on September 23. This was two days before his normal departure date of September 25. However, a fresh weather system is likely to bring rain to Delhi-NCR, including Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad.
The IMD explained that the Western Disturbance is currently based north of the region. At the same time, a monsoon thrust line passes near Delhi.
This combination brings clouds and high humidity. It also creates southeasterly winds blowing at 20 to 25 km/h. These factors prevent the usual late September heat.
Temperatures are dropping in the region
After the departure of the monsoon, the temperatures in Delhi NCR dropped rapidly.
In some parts of Delhi, the minimum temperatures fell by 3.1°C to 5.0°C below normal. The IMD expects the maximum temperatures to remain unchanged during the next 24 hours.
Then they drop by another 3-4°C.
The Delhi base station at Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 33.0 °C and a minimum of 24.2 °C on 25 September. Both numbers are close to normal.
Since June 1, Delhi has received 728.6 mm of rainfall. That’s 16% above the regular mark of 629.7mm. The IMD still classifies it as normal rainfall.

Rain forecast for the week
Most places across NCR are likely to witness light to moderate rain on September 26. This will bring thunderstorms, lightning and wind gusts of up to 50 km/h.
The rain will slow down to a milder period on September 27 and 28. From September 29, the sky will finally clear.
Safety notice
On September 26, the IMD warned of waterlogging on roads and low-lying areas of Delhi. The rain is likely to cause minor traffic jams and an increased risk of traffic accidents.
The Met Office advised commuters to check traffic information before leaving home. Drivers should follow all traffic warnings and avoid areas that frequently flood.
