A Delhi court on Monday (April 6, 2026) sent seven foreign nationals accused of alleged terrorist activities to 30-day judicial custody.
Among the accused are six Ukrainian citizens and one US citizen, identified as Matthew Aaron Van Dyke, along with Hurba Petr, Slyviak Taras, Ivan Sukmanovsky, Stefankiv Marian, Honcharuk Maksim and Viktor Kaminsky.
After their National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody ended, they were produced before Special Judge Prashant Sharma of the Patiala House Court.
The court accepted the central agency’s request for judicial custody after previous remands granted in March.
A US citizen has filed a request in court to meet with his family members, and a notice has been issued to the concerned agencies. The next hearing in the case is on April 8.
According to the NIA FIR, the accused entered India on tourist visas and traveled to the Northeast without securing the mandatory permits. Investigators say they illegally moved from Mizoram to Myanmar and were involved in training ethnic armed organizations.
The central agency is invoking provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, including those relating to conspiracy, as the agency continues to investigate suspected cross-border networks.
The court noted in an earlier order that the charges go beyond immigration violations and point to possible ties to groups aiding outlawed insurgent outfits through training and logistical support. It noted that such claims raise serious national security concerns.
