Kusal Mendis had the debut of the Indian Premier League on Friday, May 30. He played his first game at the tournament in the eliminator against the Indians in Mumbai, Mendis not only dropped essential catches, but also got on the bizarre release at the Mullanpur Stadium.
Mendis horror show against Mumbai meant that Gujarat was hung back in both halves of the match, in the absence of their regular wickeeper’s nipple Jos Buttler. Mendis became the first overseas player to make his debut in the playoffs. But there was no impact on the game.

First Kusal dropped two regulatory catches Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav and then dropped to bizarre release while chasing 229 runs. The fans could not believe what they saw and kill a piece for bizarre release. Many of them lost the cold on the chest and used some hard words. Pouring emotions was understandable because Gujarat really dominated Hchase at the time Kusal got out.
