Former trade union minister Salman Khurshid on Sunday (June 1, 2025) took social media to clarify that delegations of multiple parties created by the center attending different countries to explain the Indian attitude to Sindoor after Pahalgam’s terrorist attack.
Mr. Khursid’s comment came after reports that he had approved the Modi government’s decision to cancel the special status of Jamm and Kashmir according to Article 370 and spoke about how this step brought prosperity in the Union. Congress leader is part of a delegation visited by Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Indonesia and Malaysia.
In a long Facebook post, Mr. Khurshid, who is a member of the Congress (CWC) work committee (CWC), explained a very nuance and explained how “our instincts told us to stand by the government and support the need to build the perpetrator”.
There are different opinions on all strategic matters and questions will be asked to the government, as more information comes out, he added.
“However, this debate should not spill into the national efforts to convince the world of the main problem of terrorist attacks on India,” wrote Mr. Khursid, adding, “Our parties sent us to ensure explicit support from the countries we visit, and we do not emphasize household differences.
Unlike the leader of the Shashi Tharoor Congress, commentary on surgical strikes that caused sharp reactions from the party’s colleagues, Congress was silent about the statement of Mr. Khurshid about Article 370.
The difference in the attitude is because the position of Congress in Article 370 has undergone a change – from strongly against dilution in August 2019 to complete silence. Instead, the party is now seeking to restore complete statehood for J&K.
However, when the media reports built a statement by Mr. Khurshid as contrary to his party, he wrote: “… We understand public duties and national interests much better than critics of the chair and persecutors”.
