US President Donald Trump made a “special appearance” on Tuesday, January 20, at a briefing at the White House to mark the first anniversary of the start of his second term. However, the “special guest” appearance has been delayed, according to several reports.
The White House press briefing schedule on Tuesday announced Trump as a “special guest” to mark the 79-year-old’s completion of a year in office since taking over in January 2025.
Trump, who reportedly appeared “very calm and quiet,” arrived at the White House nearly an hour behind schedule. He appeared with a large file binder, which he called a list of his “accomplishments”, the BBC reported.
Trump’s White House speech – key events
– ‘365 wins, 365 days’: Before Trump began speaking, reporters in the room were given copies of a press release that talked about “365 wins in 365 days” for the US president. Several reporters also posted on social media the “31-page information package” they were given.
– Immigration policy, photos of “criminals”: Listing his “accomplishments,” Donald Trump began his White House speech by talking primarily about his immigration policy over the past 12 months. He also held up several photos of people who had been arrested in Minnesota, claiming they were “criminals, illegal aliens.”
–’10,000 undocumented residents detained in Minnesota: POTUS claimed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained 10,000 undocumented residents in Minnesota. Trump’s claims come after the US experienced weeks of unrest and protests following the shooting death of Renee Good by an ICE agent earlier this month.
– Machado ‘unbelievably beautiful woman’: Trump briefly touched on the subject of Venezuela, welcoming this year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado as an “incredibly nice woman.” She presented Trump with her Nobel Peace Prize medal during a visit to the White House earlier this month. “Maybe we could get her involved in some way,” Trump said.
The rare appearance by POTUS comes as he faces extraordinary opposition from America’s European allies over his planned tariffs on Greenland — tensions he is likely to face in person this week at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
