The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Severage Board (HMWS & SB) sewer board recorded a 36% increase in reservations of water tankers compared to previous years.
The trend can continue if the delay in precipitation persists in the coming weeks, said the head of the Board of Directors K. Ashok Reddy on Tuesday. The unusual situation arose especially due to lack of abundant rain this month.
From 1 to 14 July it was 86,520 water tankers compared to 63,724 water tankers in the same period last year. The Council has a fleet of 1,135 water tankers and 140 fillings.
As in any dry season, the demand for water tankers is in July of six divisions in the city – Slovakia Nagar, Kukatpally, Durgam Cheruvu, Nizampat, Maniconda and Sahebnagar.
Rwhs mandatory
Officials noted that about 42,000 consumers out of a total of 14 lakhs are buyers of water tankers. Most 2.84 Lakhu tankers or 90% of tankers also book these repeated consumers during the summer season.
Officials stated that the collection of rainwater (RWH) was mandatory for each house with an area of 300 square yards and higher. Related survey carried out last year revealed that about 16,000 consumers who are only dependent on tankers for their daily water are also those without RWH.
Last year, the Board of Directors proposed to double the fees for water tanker tankers, but did not carry out it. However, a list of such consumers would soon be prepared for compulsory awareness and construction of RWH.
