After the controversy about what is considered to be a defective list of voters for the Elections in Sabha in 2024, many apartments in the Thrissur constituency awaken the “unknown” inhabitants in their housing complexes.
The first breath of irregularity came from Capital Village apartments near Punnunnam. The inhabitants were amazed to find out that nine names were quietly reached the list of voters under the address of the apartment “4C” – without real passengers knowing about it.
“I lived here for four years and I have no idea who these people are,” says Prasanna Ashokan, who lives in an apartment 4C. In a bizarre reversal, the name of the father listed along each of the nine records was different, which further stimulated the suspicion of intentional fraud.
Congress marked more examples of alleged fraud. Former councilor Vatsala Baburaj said that 79 names were suspiciously added to the role in Uday in Udaya Nagar, while another 38 in the neighboring Lily Water complex. “We caught it just in time,” she said. “After we have pointed out the district collector, the election officials blocked these votes on the day of the election. Of all these names, only one person managed to hand over the vote.”
When he was contacted, the then officer at the stand (BLC) Anand C. Menon in Pununnam claimed that he had submitted all the information and complaints he received his supervisors before the elections.
However, Bharatiya Janata’s leaders rejected the accused as politically motivated. The leader of the leader V. Muraleedharan downplayed controversy and questioned why no objections were raised when the proposal of voters was published. “Although there were 11 false votes, BJP Suresh Gopi’s candidate still won by 75,000 votes,” he said.
The General Secretary of the State of BJP Mt Ramesh laughed at it as a case of “sour grapes”.
VS Sunilkucar, left the democratic front candidate in the election of Lok Sabha from 2024 from Thrissur, killed what he called the “irresponsible attitude” of the Election Commission to accusations. “Instead of announcing an investigation when such a serious complaint is raised against the constitutional body, it tells us to make an affidavit,” he said.
Mr. Sunilkuhar claimed that the real problem was to abuse Form 6. “Add voters to the constituency, the minimum statutory requirement is six months of stay here. This must be verified before the name is added.
The State Minister of the Union for ROP Suresh Gopi, which represents the election district, was not available for response. When his secretary Rajesh Nair was in his office Thrissur, he said the minister was in parliament and could not be contacted.
