Deepti Sharma nods to Hanuman ji and writes another ICC event masterclass
“I am grateful and Hanuman ji is great.
Deepti Sharma was over the moon after the heroics during the India vs Pakistan match her love affair with ICC events continued. And there’s a good reason for that. The all-rounder was not in top form coming into the Women’s T20 World Cup.
IND vs PAK: HIGHLIGHTS | SCORECARD
Deepti had just 14 wickets and 115 runs from 12 matches, with her place in the team coming under the scanner. But when it comes to ICC events, the all-rounder is fast turning into one of India’s key players.
In 20 matches at the Women’s World T20 Cup, Deepti Sharma took 24 wickets at an economy rate of 6.68 and an average of 21.12, with best bowling figures of 5/10, including one five-wicket haul.
In 23 matches at the Women’s ODI World Cup, the Indian all-rounder took 36 wickets at an economy rate of 5.05 and an average of 27.22, with best bowling figures of 5/39, including 1 five-wicket haul.
She stepped up again on Sunday to help India get over the line. She broke India’s opening position in the powerplay and then provided the crucial breakthrough to Ayesh Zafar.
She picked three wickets in her final to end the game for her side. And it was exactly the same as she completed her last ICC venture where she made a fifty and took five wickets in the Women’s ODI World Cup final.
“I like ICC tournaments, where I finished in the previous event, I started from there,” said Deepti.
NO WORRIES ABOUT FORM
Despite being in a lean phase, Deepti said she never worried about her form and always believed in herself to deliver for the team at the right time.
“I wasn’t actually worried when I didn’t get wickets. I always believed that whenever the time was right, I would always go for the team and play and pass like that,” said Deepti.
With this performance, Deepti topped the women’s T20I bowling charts and came close to breaking Jhulan Goswami’s record for most wickets in women’s cricket.
