July 26 The Supreme Court described mental health part of the fundamental right to life and dignity under Article 21. The judiciary Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta shared 15 instructions and criticized the coaching centers for ignoring the well -being of students.
According to the Top Court, the instructions will remain active until the laws are performed. All schools and universities were asked to propose a common mental health policy.
Their policy must be based on the design of UMMEED, Manodarpan scheme and national suicide prevention strategy. This policy should be reviewed every year and shared on the website and on the basis of notifications.
These steps came when the court heard an appeal on the death of a 17 -year -old student Neet in Vishakhapatnam in 2024. The girl’s father demanded the CBI probe until her death. While the High Court Andr Pradesh dismissed this demand, the Supreme Court has now approved it.
The court asked institutions with 100 or more students to hire at least one trained advisor, psychologist or social worker. Smaller institutions must connect with external mental health experts.
Schools and universities must train all employees twice a year in basic mental health care with the help of experts. They must learn how to handle students from weaker or marginalized groups with care and without bias.
Institutions must set safe and private ways for students to report bullying, harassment, ogrging or abuse of any kind. Parents must also be informed of mental health through regular sessions.
Schools must keep anonymous records and submit annual reports of their work in the field of mental health. It must focus more on sports, art and personality activities.
Exams should be better planned to make students feel too much pressure. The aim is to help students grow in all respects, not just through grades.
“The inability of an early or reasonable measure in such cases, especially if such neglect contributes to the self -harm or suicide of a student, is considered to be institutional fault, so the administration is responsible for regulatory and legal consequences,” Lavička said.

The foundation operates programs that talk about problems such as stress, anxiety and depression. TLLF also cooperates with other groups to address more people and broadly spread awareness of mental health.
