The Milky Industry in Telangana urged the State Government to help resolve the ambiguity surrounding the tax rate on the goods and services for flavored milk by promoting the formal notification of the GST Council for a single 5% fees.
The state government recommending a uniform GST classification for flavored milk within 5% of GST boards will be in accordance with court decisions and industrial practices and will ensure clarity, consistency and fair taxation, the industry said that after its representatives met Commissioner for commercial taxes K. Harith, recently and submitted.
They reported the official that most industrial players have already taken 5% of the GST rate for flavored milk on the basis of recent court decisions that classify milk flavored under HSN 0402 as a dairy product, not as aerated or beverage item.

Sambamurty, Coo, Heritage Foods; VJ Michel Pitra, CFO, Lactalis India (Thirumala Dairy); PP Manoj, CFO, Creamline dairy products (Jersey); Azeem of Masqati Dairy; and ca mohd. Irshad Ahmed, Chairman, GST and Customs Commission for Business and Industrial body FTCCI.
The milk sector is essential for rural living and consumer health. Incorrect classification or higher taxation of dairy products with added value, such as aromal milk, may disrupt the supply chain and availability, the delegation said.
Mrs. Haritha assured the delegation that the matter would be explored and properly initiated with higher authorities.
Separately, on behalf of the Secretary of the GST Council Secretariat in Delhi, the chapter Indian the Milky Association in Delhi called on the committee to maintain 5% of GST on a flavored milk and did not raise it to 12%.
