The owner of Sresan Pharmaceuticals, a company based in Tamilská Nadu, which created a syrup of coughs associated with the death of 24 children in Madhya Pradesh, was succeeded on Friday (October 10, 2025) for 10 days of police ties in Chhindware MP in Chhindwara.

“We will find out who people are involved in the production and quality checks of the syrups in their society to qualify for safety parameters. Other measures, whether to push more accusations against it or reserve more people, will be taken on the basis of evidence,” he said.
Mr. Verma also pointed out that it was “very unusual”, that such a high amount of toxic chemicals can be added by mistake or because of negligence. It has been found that the syrup samples falsify more than 46% of the diethylene glycol (DEG) in the tests of the Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
“At the moment we are in the initial phase of the investigation, but we will definitely try to find out if there will be a motive behind it,” added Mr. Verma.
IMA protests for the arrest of a doctor
Government pediatrician, who has now been suspended, Dr. Punic Soni is already in custody after being arrested for prescribing syrup of many deceased children in his private hospital in parasia, where the highest number of death was reported.
However, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) raised objections to their arrest, while doctors and pharmacists protested in Chhindware and demanded its immediate release.
Previously, the MP authorities suspended two drug inspectors published in Chhindware and Jabalpur and representatives of food and drug manager (FDA) while transferring the controller.
The opposition Congress demanded the removal of Deputy Rajendra Shukl, who also holds the healthcare portfolio.
