After the death of a student at Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College in Balasore Odisha University Grants Commission on Tuesday (July 15, 2025), he said he had created a Committee on the Problem to find out the facts.

The Committee will be headed by UGC member and professor at the Gobindh Singh Indrastha University in the new Delhi Raj Kumar Mittal. The committee will include a former UGC member Sushma Yadav and Vice -Chairman Gujarat University Dr. Neerja Gupt and his coordinating officer will be a common secretary of UGC Ashima Mangla.
The Committee will submit within seven days “Detailed Report with findings and recommendations”, UGC said.
Odisha student death video explanation
On Saturday (July 12, 2025), the student attempted suicide on academic ground and stated that her repeated complaints about sexual harassment did not hear a higher education teacher. The accused teacher, Samir Sahu, was arrested after the incident. The student was first admitted to the Balasore district hospital and later moved to Aiims Bhubaneswar, but on Monday (July 14, 2025) it succumbed to her injury.

The incident caused extensive outrage because several opposition parties were criticized by the ruling BJP in the state. In the middle of outrage, the director of the Dillip Kumar Ghosh was arrested and sent to a 14 -day judgment.
