The Indian Institute of Natural Education and Research (Iiser) Calcutta created a committee to find out facts that investigate circumstances surrounding the recent unnatural death of the PhD of the Roy.
“The team for finding the facts was introduced on 9 August to look into this matter. It includes both external and internal members,” Iiser Kolkata, spokesman for Monday (August 11, 2025), said on Monday (August 11, 2025).
Mr. Roy, a 25 -year -old scholar of biological sciences, died on Friday (August 8, 2025) in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (Aiims), Kalyani, after being found unconscious in the Kalyani campus.
The family of the deceased filed a police complaint against their colleague PhD Scholar Souraph Biswas and his supervisor Bhadra at the Haringhaata Police Station on August 9, and a relative was submitted. These two individuals were named and accused of abusing and negligence in a contribution to social media Mr. Roy before his death.
“Although it is considered suicide, we believe it is an institutional murder. His friends are witnessing how they brought him to his death together with two individuals. He spoke to his parents around 20.40 hours of the previous night.
At the Wee Hours of Friday (August 8, 2025), Mr. Roy sent a detailed report on his social media account about his fighting at the Institute, claiming that Mr Biswas’s abuse and Professor Bhadr’s supervision, as well as against the tearing cell of the Institute.
“Together with many of my colleagues, I repeatedly abused Sourabh Biswas, a PhD student in our laboratory. A repeated complaint on our superior Anindit Bhadra fallen on deaf ears,” Roy wrote on Facebook.
He also claimed that Mr. Bhadra blamed him despite his complaints. Mr. Bhadra is a professor of biological sciences in Iiser.
He added that April 12 Mr. Biswas allegedly “shouted at him for a long time” in the laboratory and that no measures were taken, although it was not repeated complaints with the anti-ranked cell of the Institute. In the document entitled “As far as Sourabh”, the deceased scholar further stated that he demanded the apology of Mr. Biswas on his official e -mail for his “repeated cases of abusing behavior”.
“I noticed complaints about the anti-raising cell Iiser Kolkata both by e-mail and through the official portal. They never reached me. One member of the Student Council supported for me, while another told me I was thinking about reputation of the laboratory before complaining,” said the scholar.
Personal struggles
According to his contribution to the social media, Mr. Roy was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome and also faced “recurring physical, mental abuse of parents”.
Mr. Roy was a researcher “Dog Lab” Iiser Kolkata headed by Professor Bhadra. The laboratory, located in the building of the CV Raman building of the Mohanpur Institute, studies the natural history and behavior of stray Indian dogs.
Mr. Roy was part of at least three publications in the laboratory, including the first author in one publication “Ready, Set, Yellow! Color Preferences of Indian Free-RAnges Dogs”, published at the beginning of this year. A study of behavior related to color vision in dogs found a stunning preference for yellow color in 134 untrained adult dogs.
“Anamitra has reported the Iiser administration several times about his experience, which his colleagues were bullied. They did not respond to him or encountered him once. There is no doubt that what happened to him (he is) annual to Ogrging and that the negligence of the campus is to be accused of his death.”
He added that SFI representatives asked for the audience with the director of the Institute on August 14th.
