The Kakinada District Development Control Committee (DDRC) on Tuesday decided to expedite the construction of a temporary protection wall along the Uppady coastal belt to prevent coastal erosion. The committee also approved an irrigation facility to save 2 TMC of water currently being released into the sea from the Yeleru reservoir and construction of 11 ghats along the Godavari river in Kakinada district.
The DDRC, headed by Kakinada District Minister-in-Charge and Urban Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana, reviewed the proposed projects in the district on Tuesday.
District Collector S. Shan Mohan informed that the Andhra Pradesh Marine Board has proposed to construct a temporary protective wall along the coastal belt of Uppady at an estimated cost of ₹ 16 crore. He further said, “₹18 crore has been allocated for Yeleru reservoir system works and ₹55 crore for development of 11 ghats along Godavari river for Godavari pushkarams-2027”.
Mr. Narayana appreciated the efforts of the district authorities for completing digitization of records of 72 primary agriculture credit societies in the district. He directed the district officials to acquire more paddy fields than the actual target in Kharif 2025-26.
Kakinada MP T. Uday Srinivas, Kakinada city MLA Vanamadi Venkaeswara Rao, MLC Karri Padmasri, District Cooperative Credit Bank Chairman Tummala Babu and other officials were present.
